As a Memory Care Director, I’ve spent over 20 years helping families work through the often heart-wrenching questions that rush upon them when they discover their loved one has dementia. What do I do now? Who will take care of Mom? How much will it cost for her care? How can I keep her safe?
My hope is that this book will ease the uncertainty and anguish I’ve seen in hundreds of families as they share their personal stories. Sadly, these accounts are increasing as dementia cases are on the rise. There are more than five million Americans that are currently living with dementia. Unless a cure is found, as many as 16 million Americans could have dementia by 2050. Globally there are 50 million estimated dementia cases and, to that number, ten million are added annually. If you are about to embark on the road of caring for a loved one with dementia, you can be assured that you are not alone. Millions of family members have the same questions you may now be asking. For many years, families have sat down with me to ask advice concerning their loved ones situation. I noticed that their questions and concerns were usually very similar. I wanted to write a book that answered those frequently asked dementia care questions. Each chapter addresses a question that I hear most often.

This book is one of those great resources and contains so much of that helpful information. His knowledge of what you are going through and his special ability to know what you need before you do is a true blessing.

Very well written, easy to understand and extremely helpful in guiding one through probably the most difficult emotional journey one can experience - that being a caregiver to our aging parents. So many helpful suggestions with navigating the overwhelming task of deciding and then finding the right place for mom, and/or dad. I would highly recommend reading this BEFORE you actually need to.

I just read an absolutely wonderful book titled, “Parental Dementia: A guide through all the difficult questions”. So who wrote this masterpiece? Keith Galas and Halle Eskew. Just some topics covered: what is dementia, Sundowning, home care, day care, memory care, financial advice and “will Mom forget me?” and much more. BRAVO Mr. Galas! About the Authors
Keith Galas is the Executive Director of a memory care community that has been referred to as the “Gold Standard” of memory care in Atlanta, Georgia. With a 20-year career of improving elder life, Keith saw early on how the senior population needed better standards of care and how families caring for Mom deserved more empathy and compassion.
